The DEP is responsible for implementing state laws governing oil and gas development. It conducts inspections at well sites to ensure operators are following the law. Operators are notified of any violation of the law by a Notice of Violation, or NOV. Operators may also be penalized depending on the severity of the violation.
At Talisman, we take all violations seriously. Our goal is to work safely and in an environmentally responsible manner. The DEP and other regulatory bodies are there to ensure we continue to operate responsibly and that we are accountable to our stakeholders.
We are committed to learning from our mistakes and developing processes that ensure improved performance while minimizing our impact to the environment. Every inspection by the DEP, with and without violations, is analyzed so that we can continuously learn and put mechanisms in place to improve our operational performance.
Many of our violations come from incidents that we have self-reported, as we believe that it is our duty to be transparent about our operations.
