The Business Analyst role is responsible to identify and document business requirements related to Information Systems solutions. This role also combines GIS analytical spatial analysis to solution delivery. This role champions the leveraging of information technology based solutions to improve operations and decision making processes for all Talisman USA’s business areas. This is accomplished through sound business understanding, effective business relationships, overseeing delivery of projects and monitoring service levels for all production services. In addition, this individual ensures solutions are delivered within the context of the information technology strategy and that integration / data management practices are followed from a corporate wide perspective.
BUSINESS ANALYST RESPONSIBILITIES:
In fulfilling this role, the characteristic Business Analyst responsibilities are as follows:
- Champion the cause of information technology through promoting business process improvement ideas with decision makers in the business and representing the full range of services available from Information Systems and its outsourcing partners
- Ensure the information technology strategy is well understood by all stakeholders
- Develop sound working relationships with business decision makers
- Work with clients in identifying potential technology solutions to improve business processes, and develop information technology tactical and operational plans aligned with both the business and the information technology strategy
- Participate (and lead where necessary) the development of business cases to support justified information technology initiatives
- Ensure thorough process reviews are performed on important business areas and that business requirements definitions reflect process improvements
- Ensure business management and users are committed to proposed information technology solutions and their benefits
- Assist the business with the approval process for these solutions
- In consultation with Information Systems Management and the outsourcing partners, ensure quality project management and project teams are assigned for solution delivery
- Ensure adequate business participation for both project guidance and project delivery
- Through fulfilling the advisory role on delivery projects, monitor project progress and provide consultation to Project Managers delivering solutions
- Perform quality assurance of project deliverables where necessary
- Ensure data management and integration practices are followed
- Monitor production and user support service levels and initiate corrective action where required
- Ensure business management are kept apprised of new technological developments and competitive activities appropriate to their areas
Qualifications:

- A strategic and tactical business focus
- A sound business acumen and interest in improving business processes
- GIS spatial analysis and familiarity with GIS technology (ArcGIS)
- Understand GPS technology and location data capture best practices
- Exemplary communication skills and the ability to relate to all levels of the organization
- Sound conflict resolution and negotiating abilities
- A working knowledge of information technology and an interest in the application of technology to business opportunities and problems
- A knowledge of the data management and integration practices of Talisman and their importance from a corporate perspective
- The ability to form sound vendor relationships and appropriate leadership to assigned vendor resources
- Financial management acumen
- The ability to develop business cases supporting investment decisions
- Good understanding of network, communications and other infrastructure
- Must be solutions driven and able to provide resolution to a diverse range of complex problems
- Possess good initiative and strong follow-up skills
- Able to work in a fast paced environment and able to set/meet specific deadlines
- Able to focus on details but understand how the work fits into the larger program
- University degree in Computer Science, GIS or Geography
